New Year's Skin Goals - Go for the Glow

 by Kalmaya Staff

What better way to set resolutions than to pencil in some self love and pampering with skin goals? I admit, after I saw celebrities working out and doing home facials during quarantine, I couldn't believe it. The sheer drive, motivation, and access to trainers and dermatologists! Well, it's not too late to get on the glow train.

We'll talk about three easy New Year's glow resolutions to feel both confident and pampered in 2021.

Eat For Glow

There have been rumors forever that dairy might not be the best thing for acne. Now, there are studies that back up this claim. According to research presented at the 2019 European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Congress in Madrid, there is a greater risk of acne if you eat a diet high in dairy and sugars.

According to the study, you should eat Omega-3 fatty acids and a high fiber diet instead. Think flax seeds, salmon and oats, but don't forget to look for other substitutions to get in your Calcium and Vitamin D.

If you're looking for more supple skin, then of course we're going to talk about retinol. Ever wonder how your body naturally makes retinol? Look for vegetables rich in carotenoids such as beta-carotene found in carrots and Sea Buckthorn. Your body converts these provitamins into retinol during absorption and stores Vitamin A in the liver for later use.

Glow For The Burn

It's no secret that daily exercise is great for just about everything. If you're working out for your complexion, focus on getting your heart pumping.

Cardio especially gets your blood flowing, which in turn increases oxygen circulation. This increased blood flow also helps to deliver nutrients throughout the body- and that means to your skin, as well. Exercise also helps to flush out toxins. All good things for that post-workout glow.

Don't forget to remove your makeup before heading to the gym, and if you break a sweat, make sure to rinse off right away. Working out with makeup on, or sitting in sweaty clothes for hours can have the opposite effect of what you're going for.

Now for the pampering! It's time to step up the standard skincare routine. First up- replace typical face soaps with non-foaming cleansers. Harsh soaps can contain a myriad of toxic ingredients and also strip away healthy microbes that prevent your skin from breakouts and drying. Be gentle to your skin with soaps made for sensitive skin. You can also pair your face wash with an oil cleanser such as this cult K-beauty favorite double cleanse

If you're staying away from harsh ingredients, upgrade your toner with something that's alcohol free. Toners are meant to hydrate, not dry out (which alcohols like phenoxyethanol do). Indulge your skin with an all organic toner that includes hydrating ingredients like rose, helichrysum, and neroli.

Finally, we're on the ultimate luxury glow goals- hydration and silky-smooth skin. Keep your moisturizer along the lines of the new Scandi Beauty Trend- healthy and minimal. Hydrate and seal in moisture with a lightweight and non-comedogenic face oil like Moonlight or Royal Rose. Make sure to check the ingredients for USDA Organic and EcoCert Approved clean formulas.
